VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Name: Laura
Title: Thailand Intern Director
Where are you originally from? Norman, Oklahoma
Where are you serving w/ R-Nhu? Thailand

What got you get involved with R-Nhu? Why did you choose to work with R-Nhu? How long have you been involved? I originally heard about Remember Nhu through word of mouth. My state is not involved but I knew a man who knew a man. I did some research and 3 years ago I made the commitment to be an intern for R-Nhu. I taught English the summer of 2011, when I returned  home I stayed involved and up to date. After visiting in March of 2012 I knew I wanted to come back for a longer commitment.

What’s been your best experience working with R-Nhu? I think it is the quiet moments when genuine love is shared. When a child runs up to see you or your belly hurts because you shared a joke with an adult worker. I think this universal love is addicting and enticing to people who visit one of our homes.

What type of projects are you working on? What skills do you bring to R-Nhu? 70% of the time I am an educator. I teach English in the public schools, a sister home we support, and privately to adult workers. I also lead bible study with the interns and teach about culture when they first arrive. The other 30% I am an administrator and work to direct intern schedules, work and other administrative projects I am asked to help with.

Prayer requests? I think my biggest request is for wisdom to lead my interns. The wisdom to direct their time here to its fullest spiritual and personal potential possible.

What’s one Bible verse that has been particularly motivating for you? Psalms 37:5-6 (second half) Commit your way to the lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous shine like the dawn, the Justice of your cause like the noon day sun.  My hope is that people in the states will connect and understand the cause because of my work and the sharing of my work. This spoke to my heart and whispered “do as I say, and I will use you to light your cause.” I have faith this is true.

Anything else that you’d like to share with the general public? The jobs here on the field are very specific and not everyone is in a position to move and work in country. However, the job of fund and awareness raising in the States can be done by many. Everyone can help to educate and further illuminate the need for change. Without the efforts in the states we in the field can not do our jobs. I encourage everyone to get involved, to get passionate, and to watch as God moves many mountains through the work of Remember Nhu. We appreciate those who work to raise funds and spread the word. The community of Remember Nhu is a beautiful and supportive community.
